Privacy notice
What we collect, why we hold it, who else sees it and what you can ask us to do about it. This describes the actual behaviour of this website and of the hotel.

1. Who is responsible for your information
Applause Hotels Ltd is the data controller, of Plot 30-45 Federal Housing, Rumuodomaya, Obio/Akpor LGA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
For anything to do with your personal information, including the requests described in clause 8, contact us at Applausehotel@applausehotel.online or +234 813 535 7533, marked for the attention of the data protection contact.
2. What we collect
When you book a room — your name, email address, telephone number, the dates and room you chose, the number of guests, any note you add, and the payment reference and amount.
When you send us a message — your name, email address, optional telephone number, subject and message.
When you stay with us — the identification you present at check-in, as Nigerian law requires, and any charges you incur.
Automatically — our host and our anti-spam check see your IP address and basic technical information about your request, in order to serve the page and to tell a person from a bot.
We do not collect your card details. Payment happens on Paystack's own secure page; we never see, handle or store your card number, and no part of it reaches our systems.
We do not knowingly collect information about children. Bookings are made by adults, who are responsible for any children in the party.
3. Why we hold it, and on what basis
| What for | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Taking and honouring your booking, and contacting you about your stay | Performance of a contract with you |
| Answering a message you send us | Our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries |
| Recording identification at check-in | Compliance with a legal obligation |
| Keeping financial and tax records | Compliance with a legal obligation |
| Protecting our forms and systems from abuse and fraud | Our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure |
We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not profile you.
4. Who else sees it
Only the services that make the site and the booking work:
- Paystack — takes your payment. Your card details are entered on their page and held by them, never by us. They keep the transaction record.
- Cloudflare — hosts this site and its database, and runs the anti-spam check on our forms. As the host, their systems see your IP address and basic request information.
- Resend — delivers your confirmation and our reply.
Each acts on our instructions as a data processor. We do not sell your information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not pass it to anyone else — except where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.
5. Information leaving Nigeria
The processors above operate internationally, so your information may be stored or handled outside Nigeria. Where that happens we rely on the transfer conditions in Part IX of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, and we use established providers who offer contractual protections at least equivalent to the standard the Act requires. You may ask us for details of the safeguards that apply.
6. How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Booking and payment records | 6 years from the end of the financial year, to meet tax and accounting obligations |
| Contact-form messages | 12 months from your last contact with us |
| Identification recorded at check-in | As long as the law requires, and no longer |
When a retention period ends, the information is deleted or anonymised.
7. Cookies
This site sets no tracking cookies, runs no analytics and carries no advertising pixels. The only technology of this kind is the security check on our forms, which is strictly necessary. Our cookie policy sets out the detail.
8. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete information we no longer have a reason to keep;
- restrict how we use it while a concern is resolved;
- provide it in a portable, machine-readable form;
- stop using it where we rely on our legitimate interest; and
- withdraw consent, where we asked for it, at any time.
Write to Applausehotel@applausehotel.online. We will respond within one month. There is no charge, and withdrawing consent does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
Some rights have limits — we cannot delete a booking record we are required to keep for tax purposes, for instance. Where we cannot do what you ask, we will tell you why.
9. How we protect it
The site is served over HTTPS. Booking and message records are held in a database that is not publicly reachable, and access is limited to the people who run the hotel. Payment card data never enters our systems. Should a breach occur that is likely to risk your rights, we will notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and, where required, you.
10. Complaints
Please raise it with us first — write to Applausehotel@applausehotel.online and we will look into it properly. If you remain unsatisfied you have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, the supervisory authority for data protection in Nigeria, at ndpc.gov.ng.
11. Changes to this notice
If this notice changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Where a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you directly.
